A strobe light or stroboscopic lamp, commonly called a ‘strobe’, is a device used to produce regular flashes of light. It is one of several devices that can be used as a stroboscopic effect. Traditional strobe lights usually use flash tubes, with energy supplied from a capacitor, which stores energy like a battery but is capable of charging and releasing it much faster. More recently, some strobe lights have been developed to use rectified mains electricity and no capacitors at all. For strobes, power is everything!
