Teatro Solis in Montevideo, one of Uruguay’s leading opera houses, recently re-opened following an extensive refurbishment programme and decades of closure, complete with a Robe moving light rig.
The restoration project – led by architect Eneida De Léon – included the construction of a new and larger stage, and the installation of a complete new state-of-the-art technical infrastructure. This has made Teatro Solis a premier venue for hosting all types of 21st century productions.
The moving lights – consisting of 12 Robe Show Lighting ColorSpot 1200 AT fixtures were specified for the theatre by Hoffend Argentina via Nemiler, their- Uruguayan representative. Hoffend & Sons is the Robe distributor for both Argentina and Uruguay, and it was they who spec’d Robe fixtures onto the project after extensive discussions between Hoffend Argentina’s Jorge Escudedro and Robe Show Lighting’s Harry von den Stemmen.
Needing a powerful hard-edged moving light, the Robe 1200 AT’s were chosen for their immense brightness and versatility, and also their cost-effectiveness. Along with the other generic fixtures in the new rig, the Robes are controlled via an ETC 3D Emphasis control system.
Teatro Solis hosts a whole variety of productions – drama, opera, ballet and live concerts – and is both a producing and an international receiving house – and so far the ColorSpot 1200s have been particularly popular for lighting ballets and dramas. The theatre’s first full season has now kicked off, with a wide variety of performances planned for the year ahead.
Hoffend Argentina also arranged full training on the Robe products for the theatre’s technical staff, including Lighting Chief Martin Blanchet and Technical Director Ricardo Mazzarelli, who are delighted with the creative potential of their new moving lights.
