Robe UK has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Robe Show Lighting, following last week’s direct management takeover of the company by its Czech Republic based parent company, Robe Show Lighting.
David Srba, well known as Robe’s highly proactive Head of Marketing, becomes the new MD of Robe UK with immediate effect, and will now be based in the UK. Srba also continues in his role of co-ordinating Robe Show Lighting’s worldwide marketing.
Ian W Brown, who joined Robe UK in August 2004 continues as Head of Sales, working closely with his colleague Bill Jones as Sales Manager and Nathan Wan as Robe UK’s Head of Technical Services. All other aspects of the sales, office and support organisation in the Northampton UK HQ remain the same.
The move is a key element in Robe Show Lighting’s ongoing global expansion strategy. It also completes the restructuring of ROBE UK which began in February 2005.
Robe’s MD Josef Valchar says “This latest move makes perfect sense for both Robe UK and our worldwide operation. We have always been a hands-on company and involved at the core of our major markets, of which the UK is a major European hub.”
Robe UK can now capitalise on using the highly efficient administration infrastructure – encompassing invoicing, management, organisational structures, excellent stock availability, etc., of the parent company.
The moving light manufacturer has also taken an active, direct interest in other leading markets including the USA – via Robe America - which is proving a great success.
David Srba comments, “It’s a very exciting time for Robe. The UK is a major market and 2006 will be our biggest year ever. We can now streamline the UK operation, increase its efficiency and competitiveness and ultimately offer shorter lead times and more benefits for customers.”

The acclaimed Tallinn City Theatre is re-opening after a three-year closure that saw implementation of a full renovation and technical upgrade programme, including the purchase of new Robe moving lights – 55 x T2 Fresnels and 17 x T2 Profiles – and the addition of a complete new main venue which is two stories below ground, and brings the busy and vibrant repertory theatre’s performance space total to seven – 4 main, two extras / experimental and an outdoor area. The same team also operates shows in another building down the street.
Production lighting for the vibrant and diverse Park Stage at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival was once again supplied by Bristol, UK-based SWG Events. A design by Mat Spencer – also Chief LX for the project – which included nearly 70 Robe moving lights, helped deliver great lighting for a blistering lineup including Anohni and the Johnsons, Haim, Caribou, Beth Gibbons, The Maccabees, Gary Numan and many, many more who delighted audiences throughout the three-day event.
Creative Technology Middle East (CTME) has made a huge investment in new lighting equipment. This follows another substantial Robe purchase earlier in 2024.
Robe’s new LedPOINTE moving light is blazing a trail of interest across the UK market with rental and production companies investing in, and lighting designers and show operators loving this bright, versatile contemporary and – obviously – more sustainable version of Robe’s legendary original Pointe!
