In 2005 - whilst engaged on tours for Só Pra Contrariar, Alexandre Pires Sérgio Reis, Fábio Junior and Maurício Manieri - they decided that it would be a strategic advantage to own a quantity of lighting fixtures themselves.

The original idea behind the company was to focus on project development and satisfy the demands of all shows in terms of lighting by cross-renting and dry hiring kit as needed. “That’s when we realised that making an investment would be potentially far more profitable long term”, explains Rogério ‘Carioca’ Fernandez one of ShowDesign’s two directors, together with Caio Stacciarini.

The first tour using their own lights was Fábio Júnior, complete with a lighting design by Rogério ‘Carioca’ Fernandez, who is ShowDesign’s principal Lighting Designer and Project Creator, together with Leonardo ‘Maçã’ Oliveira.

Robe came on-board with the second investment.

This was a quantity of Spot 250 XTs, utilised for Só Pra Contrariar’s tour, among others. This way tour and various DVD film projects were lit using a combination of their own and some sub-hired equipment.

Having their own fixtures enabled ShowDesign to improve their design concepts and proposals, and consequently they started offering more services, e.g Aline Barros shows which brought a revolution to the market in terms of show production and technology also opened new doors for ShowDesign to light many other gospel music artists. 

They also worked on shows and DVD recordings for Zezé di Camargo e Luciano, Banda Magníficos, Banda Calypso, Aviões do Forró and many other important forró bands - and are still working with many of them.

A landmark project was the recording of the ‘Cláudia Leitte ao vivo em Copacabana’ DVD in 2008 for which they provided full production - “Everything except the audio”, expands Carioca, highlighting that this also propelled them into the world of sertanejo style bands.

From the beginning, ShowDesign has tried to ‘blaze a trail’ for the services and products offered. They were the first company in Brazil to have proper LED starcloths which became a real trend nationwide, and they also set the scene using the Jarag fixture.

Following this principal, they soon bought 24 x Robe ColorBeam 700E ATs, 24 x ColorSpot 700E ATs and 12 x ColorSpot 250 ATs.

“Thanks to Magoo at ELO and also Robe’s own efforts, the brand has reached a very good position in the market! If it continues like this I think all the companies will be working with Robe”, comments Carioca with confidence.

He adds that good after-sales service and support is also essential when considering which equipment to buy, and that both Newart and Robe satisfy all those requirements.

“Newart are fantastic - always there to help our technicians, and every time they make a visit they return with something new... a spare part, a software update, etc. It’s wonderful!”

One of Carioca’s favourite fixtures is currently the Pointe - for its brightness. He also likes the ColorBeam 700 which “It’s a really great choice for the Brazilian market”.

On the other hand, Leonardo choses Robe’s LEDWash series. “For me, these are simply the best! For Spots I like the MMX with its great gobos and numerous possible effects”.

Concluding, Rogério said: “I’m very proud of our integrity and the respect we command as a serious player in the market, a position we have achieved by being careful not to step on any toes! That’s why big companies with longer histories tend to like us - we are young and adventurous on one hand, but quite grown up on the other!”

Recent projects using their Robes include the latest Rebeldes Brasil tour, with around 40 fixtures and the recording of Diego & Diogo and Lucas Ferreira’s DVDs which utilised several different Robe products.
