Lighting designer Dave Byars used Robe moving lights for the first time on The Beautiful South’s 2006 "Superbi" UK tour. Byars is known for his distinctive, slightly idiosyncratic and very stylish designs and is one of the UK’s most creative LDs. All lighting equipment and crew for the tour was supplied by HSL. Eight Robe ColorSpot 575 ATs and 15 ColorWash 575 ATs were rigged either on the back truss or positioned on the stage floor, with three Washes on the front truss. The rear truss fixtures were attached to a series of graduated length drop-arms, gently following the curvature of a series of special set drapes that framed the stage. A further 12 Robe ColorSpot 250 ATs were stood on the risers, pointing outwards into the audience, with another 8 Robe ColorWash 250s joining the three Wash 575 fixtures on the front truss, used for the standard band washes. The rear truss and front facing floor lights were used for big dramatic beam looks and huge split and full gobo effects that swept into the audience, drawing them into the stage action. With the tour itinerary encompassing a variety of different sized venues, Byars wanted an adaptable set of fixtures and small, flexible units that were appropriately sized for the available stage space. He was also impressed with the brightness of the Robe’s for their size. For more press information contact marketing department ROBE Show Lighting on e-mail: marketing@robe.cz
