Production lighting was designed by Mike Parsons from Clifton productions who also supplied all the lighting and visual technology to the show presented by Jupiters Gold Coast.
The Convention Centre was transformed into a gala dinner and battle zone for the live event, packed with punters and excitement for the World Kickboxing Network WKN) sanctioned event that fuses the sports of traditional Muay Thai combat and kickboxing.
Several trusses were flown in the ceiling to provide lighting positions for illuminating the ring right in the middle of the space, plus the immediate floor area around this which was full of dinner tables, the bleacher seating stands on all four sides and the stage and entrance ramp.
Six Robe ROBIN 600E beams were stationed on the stage, either side of a large LED screen showing IMAG relay of the action (in addition to three others above the ring). These were used for bright beam effects and back lighting and filling the wide angle camera shots – the event was broadcast on Fox Sports TV.
Twenty-eight ROBIN 600E Spots and 28 ROBIN 600 LEDWashes were used to highlight all around the rest of the space as and when needed, focusing heavily on the fights and the side show happening on the stage.
The lights were operated by Matt Hansen.
The fights consisted of 5 x 3 minute rounds under full Muay Thai rules with use of all 8 weapons. The adrenaline fuelled evening saw local hero and current World Champion Nathan ‘CARNAGE’ Corbett defend his WKN World Heavyweight title against Stephane Susperregui from France.
