The 6000 capacity annual hardcore house event featured one main arena with lighting designed by Patrick Bellens from “The Creative Factory”. The equipment – including the Robe fixtures – was supplied by L&L Stage Service from Herentals.
The Creative Factory is a recently formed company focused on creative event design and event production. Patrick Bellens and David Smeets are qualified lighting designers and board operators for all kind of events, while Bart Weyts takes on a leading function as operational/project manager on-site (crew-chief), and is also a director and manager of rental company, L&L Stage Service.
For this year's Dance Event, they used 16 x ROBIN 600 Spots and 16 x ROBIN 600 LEDWashes.
With only 32 moving lights to illuminate the whole arena, it would sometimes be a challenge to keep everything looking different, interesting and visually stimulating for several hours of non-stop performance …. But … not using these fixtures!!
A ground support system was installed above and around the stage and set which included some spectacular large scenic butterflies, used as projection surfaces. “These Robe fixtures certainly gave us the creative scope we needed to keep it looking fresh and different throughout the event,” declares Weyts. “We certainly didn’t run out of ideas or opportunities, and they are really very dynamic units”.
It was the first time they had used the LEDWash 600s, which were newly delivered to L&L Stage Service - and also the first live appearance for the LEDWash in Benelux. The fixtures were specified for the company's hire stock by Bart Weyts.
His decision to invest in the LEDWashes following a demo by Bram De Clerck from Robe’s Belgian distributors, Controllux, in which they compared the LEDWash directly with competitor products in a shoot out. It took less than 5 minutes before Weyts picked the Robe product.
This was primarily because of the multi-colour Cree chipset that is used, together with features like the zoom, the flat beam field, the quality of light output and the effects possible using the 3 LED rings.
L&L’s first Robe purchase was the ROBIN 600 Spots - the same ones that were also used on the 2011 Dance Event. They were the first rental company in Benelux to use these particular fixtures of which they were 'early uptakers' in May 2010.
At this point they also decided to change all their pre-existing moving light hire stock to Robe.
The lighting for Dance Event was operated by Patrick Bellens running a Chamsys MagicQ. The LEDWashes were used for sweeping the audience and stage, and during the course of the evening, he really maximized the effects that can be created on the rings along with the strobe functions, producing a series of mesmeric, trance like moments, and commenting that he was "Hugely impressed" with the brightness and functionality.
L&L has a full schedule of events that they will be lighting throughout the summer, so the new Robes will be very busy!
